MARRIAGE OFFICER: We have a wonderful assortment of ministers, of various faiths (Methodist, Anglican and Presbyterian) who provide a meaningful and truly memorable ceremony for you. Our ministers are personable, kind, with a sense of humor and will work with you to provide the kind of ceremony you would be most happy with. Some couples like to write their own vows and have special wishes such as readings by family members or other requests. If you have special requests, please contact your minister prior to your ceremony upon arrival on the island, or before, to discuss your wishes. If your minister is performing an outdoor ceremony and inclement weather appears unexpectedly prior to your ceremony, you will then be married in your minister’s church unless you have requested prior arrangement of a tent rental in case of inclement weather.
CATHOLIC CEREMONIES: Divorced persons cannot marry in the Catholic Church. Visitors to Bermuda can marry in the Catholic Church, but there are stringent rules, which must be adhered to prior to the marriage. Please view the Bermuda Catholic Diocese website for further information and instructions at www.dobcc.bm. The cost in US dollars for a Catholic church wedding is as follows: Church $750, stipend for the priest $150 plus $500 for the Diocese. Catholic priests do not perform outdoor ceremonies, only marriages within the Catholic church.
Rabbis do not perform ceremonies in Bermuda.
Justices of the Peace cannot perform marriages in Bermuda.
REGISTRY OFFICE CEREMONY: A civil ceremony can be performed by the Registrar General in the Marriage Room in the Registry Office.
LEGALITIES FOR BRINGING YOUR OWN MINISTER, PRIEST,
RABBI TO BERMUDA: If you wish to bring your
own minister, rabbi or priest to marry you in Bermuda, your clergy must contact
the Registry Office and the Department of Immigration in Bermuda and obtain
and complete a Marriage Officer License application form from the Registry
Office and also obtain permission from the Bermuda Department of Immigration.
